Many roofs throughout the world are constructed using poured concrete. These structures are usually made with reinforced steel. They are inexpensive but require a great deal of maintenance to keep them from leaking since they shift, move, and dissolve easily. The problem with concrete is that it IS concrete. Concrete is made up from several ingredients including calcium carbonate and sand. Calcium Carbonate is a plentiful substance that comes from the dead skeletons of sea life. These plentiful substances dissolve quite easily in very wet environments unless they are protected. Concrete roof repair is often necessary because concrete is susceptible to scaling, cracking, crazing, spalling, etc. In most cases, minor, timely repairs and regular maintenance will ensure that there is no structural damage. The root problem when using concrete as a roofing material is that concrete is porous and retains moisture. This moisture can result in cracking or even corrosion of the rebars, leading to spalling. The most common complaint with regard to both concrete tile and flat concrete roofing is water leaks.

Here in the Dominican Republic if your roof is concrete and more than 5 years old, chances are you have had some repairs done to it or are in need of a leak repair. The common method of repair if you have used a local tradesman is to place a "band-aid" like repair job on top of the damaged area. This method will guarantee you future problems. We frequently find roofs here that have several layers of repair work piled one on top of the other and the roof continues to leak because that is NOT the answer.

CBS will identify where the problem is truly coming from. We will remove the layers of old work or dig out the trouble spot and replace it with a new surface. The area will be properly primed and sealed. We will come back after the next big rain and check if any more adjustments to the repairs need to be made to ensure that the problem has indeed been solved.
